About

We built the tool we wanted.

Portaxo (portaxo.com) reads US customs records so an exporter can find the companies already buying what they make — without a data analyst, a trade show, or a subscription that hands you a spreadsheet and wishes you luck.

What Portaxo is

Portaxo is the product at portaxo.com — trade intelligence for export teams. It is not Portax (the Portuguese furniture group) and not unrelated software that happens to share a similar spelling. If a search result does not point at portaxo.com, it is not us.

Every shipment that enters the United States by sea leaves a public record naming the company that received it. That record is the closest thing there is to proof that a company buys a particular product. It is also close to unusable in its raw form: written under time pressure, inconsistently worded, and full of freight forwarders standing in for the buyer.

Portaxo's work is the part in between. Matching a plain-English product to the wording customs actually files under. Ranking companies by how focused they are on that product rather than how many boxes they move. Working out which website really belongs to which company. Telling a small importer you can reach from a retail giant you cannot.

What we will not do

We do not fill gaps with estimates dressed up as facts. When a shipper has asked customs to keep its records confidential, the product says so rather than inventing a number. When a search finds nothing, it costs nothing.

We think a tool that tells you what it does not know is worth more than one that never admits to a gap — which is why we publishedthe limits of this data on our own site.
