MCP connector
Use Portaxo from Claude, Codex or ChatGPT
Connect once, then ask in a sentence: find the US importers of a product (or the overseas factories making it), or look a company up by name; unlock the buyers' emails and direct phones, draft an email or a sequence to them or to contacts you already have, and send it from your own mailbox.
What it does
Your assistant, working in your Portaxo account
Portaxo's MCP server lets an AI assistant do what you do across Find Buyers, Leads and Outreach. It searches US customs records for the companies importing a product, or for the overseas factories and traders shipping it, and finds a company you name; at the US buyers it found, confirms each company's website and unlocks the people to email or call, with a direct phone where there is one; writes one email or a sequence as a draft, to those buyers or to people already in your contacts; and, when you tell it to, sends it from your own mailbox. Claude, Claude Code, Codex and ChatGPT sign in through your browser; other apps use an access token.
https://api.portaxo.com/mcpPaste https://api.portaxo.com/mcp exactly, with no trailing slash. portaxo.com/mcp/ is this help page, not the server; an app given it will not connect.

Claude
Add to Claude
Two ways in, and both sign in through your browser: Claude on the web, desktop or phone with one prefilled link, and Claude Code on the command line with one command.
Claude on the web, desktop and phone
A link opens Claude's add-connector dialog with Portaxo's name and URL already filled in. Add it once on claude.ai and it is in the Claude desktop and phone apps too, under the same Claude account.
Keep the defaults, then Add and Connect
Leave “Sign in now” and “Register automatically (DCR)” as they are. Click Add, then Connect.
Approve on the Portaxo page
Your browser opens Portaxo. Sign in if asked, check that the account shown is the one you want the assistant to use, and click Approve.
Turn it on in a chat
In a conversation, open + → Connectors and make sure Portaxo is on. Then ask “Show my Portaxo account”.
- Claude desktop app. A connector added on the web shows up in a desktop app that is already open only after a refresh (Ctrl+R) or a restart.
- Permissions. Claude asks before each tool runs. “Always allow” applies to that one tool; to set every tool at once, open Customize → Connectors → Portaxo. The tools table suggests a setting for each.
- Team and Enterprise. Only an Owner can add a custom connector, using the admin version of the link. Each member then finds Portaxo under Customize → Connectors, clicks Connect and signs in to their own Portaxo account.
- Claude Free. The Free plan allows one custom connector.
Claude Code (command line)
Anthropic's coding agent, in your terminal. One command adds Portaxo, and you sign in from inside Claude Code.
Add the server
Run this in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http portaxo https://api.portaxo.com/mcpAdded this way, Portaxo is there when you run Claude Code in the same folder. To have it in every project, put --scope user after claude mcp add.
Sign in from Claude Code
Start Claude Code and run /mcp. Choose portaxo, then Authenticate. Your browser opens Portaxo: sign in if asked, check the account shown, and click Approve.
Check that it is connected
Run /mcp again: portaxo is listed as connected. Then ask “Show my Portaxo account”.
- Added it on claude.ai already? When Claude Code is signed in with the same Claude account, the connectors you added on claude.ai show up in its
/mcplist too, so Portaxo may be there without the command.
No browser on this machine
On a server, or anywhere the sign-in cannot open a browser, add Portaxo with an access token instead. Replace TOKEN with your token and keep the word Bearer and the space after it.
claude mcp add --transport http portaxo https://api.portaxo.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer TOKEN"Codex
Add to Codex
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, and it comes with ChatGPT plans. Its command line, desktop app and IDE extension share one configuration file, ~/.codex/config.toml, so adding Portaxo in one of them adds it to all three. Each signs in through your browser.
Codex CLI (command line)
Add the server
Run this in a terminal. Codex finds Portaxo's sign-in and opens your browser by itself.
codex mcp add portaxo --url https://api.portaxo.com/mcpApprove on the Portaxo page
Sign in if asked, check that the account shown is the one you want Codex to use, and click Approve. Codex keeps the sign-in and renews it by itself.
Check that it is connected
Start Codex and run /mcp: portaxo is listed with its tools. Then ask “Show my Portaxo account”. If the browser did not open, or after you disconnected Codex, sign in again with:
codex mcp login portaxoCodex app and IDE extension
Added Portaxo from the command line already? The app and the extension read the same file, so it is listed there; click Authenticate if they ask. Otherwise add it here. Menu names can differ a little between versions.
Codex app (desktop)
- Open Settings → MCP servers → Add server.
- Name it
portaxo, choose Streamable HTTP and enter the server URL,https://api.portaxo.com/mcp. - Click Save, then Restart.
- Click Authenticate and approve on the Portaxo page.
Codex IDE extension (VS Code, Cursor)
- In the Codex panel, click the gear icon, then MCP servers → Add server.
- Fill in the same fields: name
portaxo, Streamable HTTP, and the server URL. - Save, then click Restart extension.
- Click Authenticate and approve on the Portaxo page.
No browser on this machine
For a server, or a machine where the browser sign-in cannot open, give the Codex CLI an access token. Codex reads it from the PORTAXO_TOKEN environment variable every time it starts, so set it where it lasts, then open a new terminal. A one-off export is gone in the next terminal, and Codex is then refused.
export PORTAXO_TOKEN=TOKENsetx PORTAXO_TOKEN TOKENcodex mcp add portaxo --url https://api.portaxo.com/mcp --bearer-token-env-var PORTAXO_TOKENOther apps
Add to other apps
ChatGPT signs in through your browser, like Claude and Codex. WorkBuddy, QwenWork, Doubao, Cursor, VS Code and any other MCP app connect with a personal access token, which is also the way in from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
ChatGPT
Create a custom MCP server
Open chatgpt.com/plugins, click + and choose Create custom MCP server.
Fill in Portaxo
Name: Portaxo. URL: the server URL, https://api.portaxo.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth.
Approve on the Portaxo page
Create it, then sign in to Portaxo and click Approve.
- OpenAI's own documentation is unclear about which ChatGPT plans may use tools that change things, such as unlocking contacts or launching a campaign. If yours cannot, use Claude or Codex.
Apps with an access token: WorkBuddy, QwenWork, Doubao, Cursor, VS Code
Apps that cannot run Portaxo's browser sign-in connect with a personal access token. It is also the way in from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, where Claude, Codex and ChatGPT are not offered. A token acts as you, with the same reach as a signed-in app, so treat it like a password.
Create a token in Portaxo
Open Account settings → API & MCP → Access tokens, or the AI assistant guide under Docs in the app. Name the token after the app it is for, create it, and copy it straight away: it starts with ptx_ and is shown only once.
Paste the config for your app
Use the block for your app below and replace TOKEN with your token. Keep the word Bearer and the space after it.
Ask something free first
“Show my Portaxo account” calls get_account, which costs nothing and proves the connection works.
- A person can hold at most 10 tokens. Tokens do not expire; revoke one in the same tab when you stop using its app.
- Changing or resetting your password, or Log out all, revokes every token and disconnects every app at once.
- These configs are plain-text files on your computer. Do not commit them to a repository or send them to anyone.
- Menu names below can differ a little between versions of each app.

Tools
The tools
What each tool does, what it costs, and the permission we suggest giving it in your app. The usual order is get_account, then find_buyers, unlock_contacts, create_campaign, a review with update_campaign, and launch_campaign; then campaign_status and pause_campaign. When you name a company rather than a product, find_company takes the place of find_buyers. To write to people already in your contacts, find_contacts takes the place of the search and the unlock. One email is a campaign with one step, and a draft can start with nobody on it: add_recipients and remove_recipients change who it goes to. find_suppliers stands apart, for sourcing. The assistant cannot unlock supplier contacts; unlock them in Find Suppliers in the app.
| Tool | What it does | Credits | Suggested permission |
|---|---|---|---|
get_account | Portaxo account Who you are connected as, your organization's credits, the price of each step, your mailboxes and your recent campaigns. | Free | Always allow |
campaign_status | Campaign progress Sent, failed, replied and waiting counts for a campaign, its current steps, and who it goes to, 50 people at a time or found by name. | Free | Always allow |
find_buyers | Find US buyers of a product A page of US importers of a product from customs records, with shipments, last shipment and whether each looks like a buyer or an intermediary. | 1 per company newly unlocked. The requested limit is held up front and settled to the new ones; companies you already unlocked cost 0. | Needs approval |
find_suppliers | Find overseas suppliers of a product Factories and trading companies shipping a product to the US: country, shipments, last shipment, US customers, and, where Portaxo has one, a factory, trader or logistics verdict with its reason. For sourcing: unlock_contacts does not take its results. The assistant cannot unlock supplier contacts; unlock them in Find Suppliers in the app. | 1 per supplier newly unlocked. The requested limit is held up front; suppliers you already unlocked cost 0. | Needs approval |
find_company | Find a company by name Looks up a company you name in customs records: a US buyer (the default) or an overseas supplier, with the same details the product searches give. A buyer it finds goes straight to unlock_contacts; supplier contacts are unlocked only in Find Suppliers in the app. Works on every plan; on Free it returns 5 companies, the first page only, and allows 5 name searches a day. | 1 per company newly unlocked. The requested limit (at most 10) is held up front; companies you already unlocked cost 0. | Needs approval |
unlock_contacts | Unlock buyer contacts Takes US buyers that find_buyers or find_company returned, confirms each company's website, and unlocks the people there: name, title, email and, where there is one, a direct phone. Only people with an email can go into a campaign; the others are there to call. You set a credit cap. | 5 per company with new people, 1 when the search finds nobody new, 0 if already unlocked. Phones come with the same unlock, at no extra cost. | Needs approval |
find_contacts | Find your contacts Searches the people already in your Portaxo contacts by name, company, tag or outreach history, so you can ask for “everyone at Acme” or “everyone tagged trade show”, and says whether each has been emailed. It lists the contacts you can see in the app: your own, unless your organization shares them. Like the campaign tools, it needs a plan with outreach. | Free | Always allow |
create_campaign | Draft an email or sequence Writes one email, or a sequence of up to 5 with follow-ups, and saves it as a draft. People are optional: your contacts, buyers you unlocked, or nobody until later. It sends nothing. | Free | Always allow Drafts never send. |
add_recipients | Add people to a draft Adds your contacts, or buyers unlocked with unlock_contacts, to a draft campaign. Someone already on it is skipped. | Free | Always allow Drafts never send. |
remove_recipients | Remove people from a draft Takes people off a draft before it is launched. The contacts themselves are kept. | Free | Always allow |
update_campaign | Edit a draft campaign Changes a draft's name, steps or sending mailbox. | Free | Always allow |
pause_campaign | Pause a campaign Holds a campaign that is sending. Launching it again resumes it. | Free | Always allow |
launch_campaign | Launch a campaign (sends real email) Starts sending a draft from your mailbox, or resumes a paused campaign. | Free, but it sends real email that cannot be recalled. | Needs approval |
Costs and limits
What it spends, and how fast it goes
Through MCP, Portaxo charges what the app charges, from your organization's shared balance. Ask for your account at any time to see what is left.
Credits
- Searching, by product or by company name: 1 credit per company or supplier newly unlocked. The search holds the number you asked for up front and settles down to the ones that were new to you; results you already unlocked are free.
- Supplier searches never charge you for supplier detail or contacts.
- Contacts: 5 credits per company that yields new people, 1 when the search finds nobody new, 0 if you already unlocked it. Direct phones, where there are any, come with the same unlock. The assistant never goes past the cap you give it.
- Website lookups cost no credits, but each organization has a daily allowance (100 by default, shared with the app).
- Account, contact book, campaign and status tools are free.
Limits
- Each call answers within about 45 seconds. Longer work comes back as
in_progress: nothing failed, and the assistant calls again to collect it. - Where Portaxo has a factory, trader or logistics verdict for a supplier, a fresh search's verdicts land about 90 seconds after it, so the assistant reads them again, free, after about a minute. Some suppliers have none yet.
- A search by company name returns up to 10 companies a page. On the Free plan it returns 5, the first page only, and each organization has 5 name searches a day, shared with the app.
- Up to 200 recipients per campaign, and only people with an email; a longer list is split into several campaigns, and a draft is not filled past 200.
- One email a minute per mailbox, up to the mailbox's daily limit (set in Outreach, 20 for a new mailbox). 200 recipients at 20 a day take ten days for the first email.
- Your signature is added to every email automatically, so the assistant should not write one.
Before you say yes
It acts as you
Whatever you connect works with your Portaxo account's full authority. These are the rules it works under.
Your credits, your mailboxes
The assistant spends your organization's credits and sends from your mailboxes, as you would in the app.
Drafts never send
Creating or editing a campaign, or changing who it goes to, only writes a draft. Only launch_campaign sends, so keep it on Needs approval.
Sent email cannot be recalled
Once a message has gone, it is gone. pause_campaign stops what has not gone out yet.
Disconnect any time
Account settings → API & MCP → Connected apps → Disconnect. The app is refused from its next request. Tokens are revoked in the same tab.
Plan and region
Who can use it, and where
Plan
- Every Portaxo account can connect an app, and
get_accountandfind_companywork on every plan. - Searching for buyers or suppliers by product needs category search, and your contacts and campaigns need outreach. The Free plan includes neither: on Free,
find_buyers,find_suppliers,find_contactsand the seven campaign tools (create_campaign,update_campaign,add_recipients,remove_recipients,launch_campaign,pause_campaign,campaign_status) answerPLAN_UPGRADE_REQUIRED. - Everything else follows your plan as it does in the app. See pricing.
Region
- Claude, Codex and ChatGPT are not offered in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau.
- There, connect a domestic desktop app such as Tencent WorkBuddy or QwenWork with an access token.
First prompts
Eight things to ask
Start with the free account check, look before you spend, and read the draft before anything sends. The contacts, the draft and the launch that follow the importer search are for the US buyers it found; the catalog email goes to people already in your contacts; the supplier search is for sourcing.
- “Show my Portaxo account” Free. Proves the connection and shows your credits.
- “Find 20 US importers of tape measures” Up to 20 credits, held up front, settled to the companies new to you.
- “Unlock buying contacts at the top 5 companies, spend at most 30 credits” The top 5 US buyers from your importer search. 5 per company with new people; the cap is yours.
- “Write a 3-email outreach sequence for these contacts and show me the draft first” Free. Saved as a draft; nothing sends.
- “Launch this campaign” Sends real email from your mailbox.
- “Has anyone replied to this campaign?” Free.
- “Draft an email about our new catalog to everyone in my contacts tagged trade show” Free. One email to people you already have, saved as a draft; nothing sends.
- “Find overseas factories shipping tape measures to the US” 1 credit per supplier new to you. For sourcing: the assistant cannot unlock supplier contacts; unlock them in Find Suppliers in the app.
Privacy and support
Your data, the terms, and who to ask
The tools return the same company, contact and campaign data you see in the app, to the app you connected. How Portaxo handles that data is in the privacy policy, and using Portaxo through any app is covered by the terms. Questions, or an app that will not connect: hello@portaxo.com.
Questions
Straight answers
What is the Portaxo MCP server address?
https://api.portaxo.com/mcp, exactly, with no trailing slash. portaxo.com/mcp/ is this help page, not the server, and an app given that address will not connect.
Does connecting an AI assistant to Portaxo cost anything?
Connecting is free. The tools spend your organization's credits exactly as the app does: 1 per company or supplier a search, by product or by name, newly unlocks, 5 per company whose contacts are unlocked (1 when nobody new is found; phones included), and nothing for the account, contact book, campaign and status tools.
Can the assistant send email without asking me?
Only launch_campaign sends email; a draft never sends by itself. Whether the assistant asks you first depends on your app: Claude asks before each tool unless you chose Always allow for it, while other apps differ and some run tools without asking. Check your app's approval setting and keep launch_campaign on Needs approval. Sent email cannot be recalled; pause_campaign stops what has not gone out yet.
Which plan do I need?
Any plan can connect, and get_account and find_company work on every plan (on Free, find_company returns 5 companies and allows 5 name searches a day). The Free plan includes neither category search nor outreach, so on Free the product searches (find_buyers, find_suppliers), find_contacts and the campaign tools (create_campaign, update_campaign, add_recipients, remove_recipients, launch_campaign, pause_campaign, campaign_status) answer PLAN_UPGRADE_REQUIRED.
Can I use it from mainland China?
Claude, Codex and ChatGPT are not offered in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau. There, connect a domestic desktop app such as Tencent WorkBuddy or QwenWork (千问办公) with a Portaxo access token instead; the steps are under Other apps on this page.
How do I disconnect an app?
In Portaxo, open Account settings → API & MCP → Connected apps and click Disconnect; revoke a token in the same tab under Access tokens. Changing or resetting your password, or Log out all, disconnects every app and revokes every token at once.
